Payment plans
Kingswalk Dental Practice provides care under the following systems of payment:
Independent (pay as you go)
Under this arrangement the patient attends under a six month recall programme and simply pays for whatever items of service are required at each visit. They are given written estimates of cost and/or detailed reports of clinical findings and treatment plan options. They are referred to the hygienist where appropriate. Although there is no registration element to this option, their emergency appointments will be prioritised and their routine appointments will usually be offered within 5-7days. Early morning and late appointments are available. Independent fee scale.
Capitation Schemes
Denplan and Practice Plan offer dental cover for monthly payments. It can cost from as little as £11.10 a month, and covers all check ups, xrays, scale and polish, fillings, root fillings, extractions, crowns and bridges. It excludes lab fees, sedation and implants. From April 2006 these are the only patients to be actually registered with the practice, and as such are eligible to be seen within 24 hours in an emergency. They attend the practice at least six monthly for check ups and visit the hygienist every 2-4 months depending on need. Capitation schemes allow the dentist to practice preventative dentistry and the oral health of these patients is generally better than the other options. In addition to all the benefits of being registered with Kingswalk, they have access to 24 hour worldwide cover, simply by ringing the appropriate helpline number. Early morning and late appointments are available.
NHS
The new NHS dental contract has been signed 'in dispute'. Please visit our ‘Current issues’ page for more information. From April 2006 patients will no longer be registered with a particular practice, although if you are currently registered we will endeavour to continue to provide your care regardless of the changes. Unfortunately from April 2006 there will be no NHS hygienist service or evening appointments available. If you have any concerns about the new arrangements please contact Newcastle Primary Care Trust directly.
