The Decontamination Process
Soiled instruments are first taken to the decontamination area to be cleaned of gross soils and inspected for damage. The decontamination process is an important stage in device reprocessing because an instrument or device cannot be sterilized until fully clean. In the decontamination process, soiled instruments are sorted, inspected and if necessary, disassembled. Instruments are first manually cleaned.
The Sterlisation Process
Once the instrument has been manually cleaned, mechanically cleaned, or both, it will be sent to the preparation and packaging area of the CSSD room. Once the instrument pack has been prepped for sterilization, it is ready to be sterilized. Steam Sterilization –A steam sterilizer, also known as an autoclave, is suitable for sterilizing heat and moisture-stable items. At the end of the sterilization cycle, the decontamination nurse reviews the sterilizer printout to verify if all sterilization parameters have been met. Biological and chemical indicators are used to monitor the sterilization process and indicate if the load was exposed to the appropriate conditions to achieve sterility.
iTero
What is an iTero scan?
iTero intra oral scanners are used to capture digital pictures inside the mouth, which create a 3D model of the teeth and gums. Using iTero scanner technology, your dentist can create a digital 3D map of your teeth in minutes, which you’ll be able to view in real-time. If you’re considering Invisalign braces, you’ll even be able to preview your new smile on screen before you start your treatment, using the Invisalign treatment outcome simulator.
What are iTero scans used for?
iTero scanners are commonly used for Invisalign teeth straightening but can also be used for other restorative treatments including dental implants, crowns and bridges. iTero scans reduce the need for traditional methods such as taking impressions, reducing your time in the dentist chair, and making your treatment experience more comfortable.
What happens during an iTero scan?
Your dentist will use an iTero ‘wand’ – a small, handheld scanner to capture over 6,000 images a second of your teeth and gums. The wand is minimally-invasive, so you’ll be able to breathe comfortably during the scanning process. Some scans can be taken in as little as 60 seconds* and the 3D model is generated instantly, so you’ll be able to see a detailed scan of your mouth straight away.
